Mother Earth News Fair in Puyallup-image

We all know how important it is to live in a sustainable way; after all, earth IS an island. But what if you want to live in a green way and just dont know how? Even if you are already committed to an eco-friendly routine, there is always something new you can learn. If you want to join in a series of discussions and workshops focused on preserving our environment, head over to the Washington State Fair Events Center in Puyallup this weekend for the Mother Earth News Fair. This two day event is packed full of informative workshops and lectures on subjects including renewable energy, gardening and small scale agriculture. Tickets will be available at the Fairgrounds box office on the day of the event. There are VIP passes available, in case you want to spend a little extra cash for access to the lounge and special menu options. The fair runs from 9:00am 7:00pm on Saturday, and 9:00am 5:00pm on Sunday. Check out the event website for more details.

A tradition in our community for over 30 years, the Puyallup Farmers Market brings farmers, artisans and food vendors together every Saturday 9am -2pm to sell their wares and enjoy some time in the park. The market runs from April through October in the Pioneer Park Pavilion at Pioneer Park, so theres plenty of time for you to check it out. Who knows, once you see the variety of locally sourced produce available there, you may find yourself taking fewer trips to the grocery store. Even if you only visit the market sporadically, you can rest easy knowing that the money you spent went directly to a farmer in this community, and that helps all of us. Head out to the Puyallup Farmers Market this Saturday and see for yourself how they live up to their slogan, So Fresh and So Green.

Are you a history buff? If so, youre in luck! The Puyallup Public library is just a few miles down the road from Willow Hill, and theyve got a room dedicated to local history and culture. [caption id="attachment_50" align="aligncenter" width="300"] The Puyallup Public Library opens their History Room to the public[/caption] Each month they open the archive to the public, so members of the community to browse through the photos and other primary sources dating back as far as the beginning of the 20th century. The History Room will be open to the public on Saturday, May 24th. If you cant make it then, you can always come back next month. Get out of the house and get experience Puyallups past!

More mild sauces are available for the timid; however, if youre a seasoned hot sauce connoisseur, you wont be able to pass this up. The most important part to any taco however is the lime, and at Amigos Taqueria there is always some lime handy to add some extra flavor to your taco. Oh, speaking of, heres a secret just between you and me - when you get to mile 4, look over the fence and youll find yourself a little surprise, lets just say there are seals involved, so youll have to do it. The Five Mile Drive and Trails is a gem thats open year-round from sunrise to sundown - enjoy the fall foliage and also check out what it looks like when the entire park is covered in beautiful, fresh snow. For those who prefer biking and walking in calm silence, the park has reserved Saturday and Sunday mornings and early afternoons just for you; it is closed to vehicle traffic so you can enjoy yourself without worrying about dodging cars! If hiking is your thing, youll love hiking along our steep cliffs and listening to the unified sounds of wild animals and the animals from the zoo right next door. If youd rather be on water, fishing and kayaking will be available to you. The park is also a great venue for picnics, reunions, weddings and more.
